Detour on SR 20 September 9 – 13, 2024

Most folks have heard about the State Route 20 closure from September 9-13,2024. This is a total closure and no traffic will be let through. This is a long detour but the Chevron lock boxes will still be accessible. Direct your guests to turn from state route 20 onto 530 in Rockport. Turn left onto Rockport Cascade Road, then left onto Cascade River Road. After crossing the bridge, turn right into the Chevron. After that, follow the directions as usual.

Bat Time
This time of year the bats seem happy to gather in the eaves of homes. Look for their droppings along the edges of the house and take care to direct cleaners for extra sweeping. It’s best to dedicate a broom to outdoor sweeping. Consider installing bat boxes to encourage these beneficial bug eaters to stick around, but not on the house.
State of the Highways
The week of rain was certainly a welcome break from the heat and was helpful in keeping fires in the area at bay. While the closest fire, Pincer Two, is not out, progress was slowed. Cascade River Road is closed at mile marker 8, closing Hidden Lake Lookout and Cascade Pass as well. State route 20 through to Winthrop closed on and off over the last month for fire and landslide, but has remained open for more than a week. Most burn bans remain. Propane fires and grills are allowed.
